Job Description:

The After School/Summer Camp Programmer is responsible for overseeing students who are enrolled in WYN’s afterschool program.  The person in this position will supervise and build relationships with school age students, assist with academics, supervise volunteers, may facilitate prevention curriculum and maintain a structured and safe environment for the students. 

Qualifications: Previous experience working with youth is highly encouraged.   The After School/Summer Camp Programmer may be responsible for transporting children and must have a valid driver’s license, clean drivers record and background check.  The successful candidate will possess outstanding people skills, be trauma skilled, have the ability to troubleshoot issues that may arise for youth at the program, and the ability to build rapport with young people.  Candidates must be highly self-motivated and demonstrate an ability to manage multiple tasks at once as well as adaptability and flexibility.

Position Responsibilities (Afterschool and Summer Camp):

  • Lead developmentally appropriate activities for groups of participating 6-8th grade students to support the program mission and goals.
  • Be actively involved and supervising participants at all times.  Participants should be in line of vision of an adult staff at all times.  Designated high-risk participants should be within a few feet of an adult as much as possible.
  • Take student head counts on a regular basis.
  • Utilize the Love and Logic Model to build relationships with students and hold them accountable and responsible for their behaviors. 
  • Provide on-site supervision for interns and volunteers.
  • Develop weekly and monthly schedules that are consistent with the program goals.
  • Provide primary supervision for all assigned participants attending the program.
  • Provide/coordinate daily academic assistance for participants (afterschool only).
  • Provide transportation for students.
  • Maintain a positive and professional relationship with participants’ parents/ guardians.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records and files for all assigned participants including (but not limited to) daily notes.
  • Communicate student activities and program information to parents/guardians.
  • Organize and set up equipment as necessary to carry out program activities.
  • Coordinate evening clean up and securing of all facilities.
  • Participate in quality of service assessments.
  • May plan and facilitate prevention curriculum
  • Develop and maintain a supportive and professional rapport with students.
  • Participate in quality of service assessments.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, parents, collaborating partners, public school personnel and WYN staff.
  • Keep Director of Student Programs and Lead Programmer informed of the students’ progress and/or potential challenges. 
  • Participate in supervision meetings with Director of Student Programs and request guidance with challenging students.
  • When offered, attend additional trainings, meetings and seminars to maintain first aid, CPR, and Love and Logic certification/training, ACE training, resiliency training, and Motivational Interviewing training etc.
  • Read, listen, and keep up to date on current research and practices in trauma, resiliency, and stress fields
  • Follow all policies and procedures described in the WYN Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Summer program, special activities, snow day, and spring break program require preparation along with an increased awareness and responsibility. Special programs have a higher risk level, and therefore require team communication and personal awareness.
  • Requires some weekends and overnights. All six weeks of Summer Camp and county spring break are required for staff to work.

Supervision: The After School Programmer will report directly to the Lead Programmer. 

Hours of Work: This is a 20-30 hour position, 12 month position (including summer camp and county spring break)

Salary/Benefits:  This position pays $33,750 (gross amount) for 30 hours per week annually and is also eligible for paid health insurance and paid leave time.  20 hours per week is paid at the same rate approx. $22,500 annually.

WYN After School/Summer Camp Substitute

Job Description:

The After School/Summer Camp Substitute is responsible for overseeing students who are enrolled in WYN’s afterschool program.  The person in this position will supervise and build relationships with school age students, assist with academics, and maintain a structured and safe environment for the students.  This person will drive kids as necessary.

Qualifications:  The After School/Summer Camp Substitute must have a valid driver’s license, background check, and three positive references.

  • Support the facilitation of developmentally appropriate activities for groups of participating students to support the program mission and goals.
  • Be actively involved and supervising participants at all times.  Participants should be in line of vision of an adult staff at all times.  Designated high-risk participants should be within a few feet of an adult as much as possible.
  • Take student head counts on a regular basis.
  • Communicate student activities and program information to parents/guardians as needed.
  • Organize and set up equipment as necessary to carry out program activities.
  • Help with evening clean up and securing of all facilities.
  • Develop and maintain a supportive and professional rapport with students.
  • Follow the direction of site staff in maintaining a safe environment 

Supervision: The Substitute will report to County Afterschool Staff

Location: Ashe, Avery, Alleghany, and Watauga Counties

Hours of Work: This is on an as needed basis.  Afterschool hours are from approx. 2-6 and summer hours are 8-5:30.

Pay:  $17 per hour

Donor Relations Coordinator Job Description

Position: Full-time (30-40 hours/week) with benefits. This position primarily works in Avery County. Travel to WYN’s other service regions may also be required at times and will be reimbursed.

Position Details: This position will work closely with the WYN Executive Director and Board of Directors to nurture existing supporters and to cultivate new ones to meet development goals to execute WYN’s mission and strategic vision.

Position Responsibilities: The Donor Relations Coordinator will report directly to the Executive Director and will have significant responsibility for the creation and execution of a donor engagement plan. This position will be responsible for individual donor cultivation and relationship building, foundation and corporate giving, increasing WYN’s endowment fund, assisting with major fund development events and utilizing marketing and social media strategies for information and engagement.

Additional responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Assisting with upkeep of donor database
  • Coordinating all aspects of WYN’s annual fund development plan including major gifts, monthly gifts, bequests, online giving campaigns, etc.
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of significant trends in the field of philanthropy
  • Engaging Board members, staff members, and volunteers in fund development initiatives as appropriate

Qualifications:

  • Past experience partnering with donors to accomplish mutual philanthropic goals is preferred
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills required
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow through required
  • Exceptional relationship builder
  • Self-starter who is dependable, flexible, and willing to learn
  • Willingness to embrace the mission of Western Youth Network and the agency’s commitment to belonging and inclusion
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and collaboration, meet internal and external deadlines and work both independently and as a team
  • Connections within the Avery County and High Country community preferred, but not required
  • Proficiency with computer-related tools including Google Suite, Microsoft Office, social media platforms, and ability to learn donor data management systems
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and/or weekend events as needed

Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary education preferred.
  • Experience in non-profit development role preferred.

Supervision Structure: The Donor Relations Coordinator will report directly to the WYN Executive Director.

Compensation: In addition to a salary range from $48,000-$58,000 annually, compensation also includes fully paid health/dental/vision insurance, paid holiday, vacation/sick leave, paid family leave options, and travel reimbursements when applicable.
