January recognized as National Mentoring Month
The Western Youth Network is celebrating 25 years of mentoring and kicking off a new year during the month of January, National Mentoring Month.
On January 6th, 2010, The White House released President Obama's proclamation stating, "NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of
America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution
and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim January 2010 as
National Mentoring Month. I call upon public officials, business and
community leaders, educators, and Americans across the country to
observe this month with appropriate ceremonies, activities, and
programs."

The U.S.Senate has also officially recognized January as National Mentoring
Month with a resolution introduced by Senators John McCain
and John Kerry.
The resolution states that the Senate "recognizes with gratitude the
contributions of the millions of caring adults and students who are
already volunteering as mentors and encourages more adults and students
to volunteer as mentors; and encourages the people of the United
States to observe National Mentoring Month with appropriate ceremonies
and activities that promote awareness of, and volunteer involvement
with, youth mentoring."

WYN will also receive a proclamation from the Mayor of Boone, Loretta Clawson, Wednesday January 13th, in Honor of National Mentoring Month.
WYN is excited about a new year and new possibilities for the mentoring program.
